The Art of Danish ‘Hygge’

landscape-1483735122-stocksy-txp5c2b2626isj100-medium-122595Hygge‘ (pronounced hoo-ga), the philosophy of happiness, and a way of living by the Danish, it simply refers to the appreciation of cosiness and the tiny little nice things in life.

In The Little Book of Hygge the concept is broken down into a manifesto including:

♥ Atmosphere – especially having the correct kind of lighting

♥ Presence or mindfulness (think switching off your phone!)

♥ Pleasure – treat smart food!

♥ Equality – we over me

♥ Gratitude – being thankful for what you have now

♥ Harmony – no place for competition or bragging

♥ Comfort – your surroundings

♥ Truce – no conflicts

♥ Togetherness

♥ Shelter – a feeling of safety

Let’s embrace those pure joy and happiness cosy moments, here’s how:

  1. Candles
Who doesn’t like candles? You can light them year-round. Whether scented or unscented, candlelight gives a clean, fresh style of classic Scandinavian interiors into your house. The flickering flames create a brooding sense of atmosphere.
  2. Make some comfort food
Cuddle up with a giant bowl of pasta and cheese, Popcorn, or a cup of cocoa. Enjoy the happy vibes that Food brings. It’s called comfort food for a reason.
  3. Gardening
Gardening is great for the simplistic beauty of hygge. It is also a great stress reliever, so grab your gloves and get to plantin’!
Plus, the garden will be looking lovely for the garden parties.

Sunday Stealing: The Cannon Fodder Questions

Just FYI, I’ve decided to move my Sunday Stealing from blogspot to here.. 🙂

The Cannon Fodder Questions

Welcome back to Sunday Stealing which originated on WTIT: The Blog

We found this gem from a blogger called Woozie at his previous blog Tome. He explains that he’s 18, and obviously he uses a rather unusual avatar. We aren’t doing anything but stealing the meme. Woozie admits he stole this meme, but doesn’t say from where. But, it was probably stolen at that blog as well. But that is as far as we go. Tracing back our theft’s thieves might take some time. Please “like” us on Facebook!

Cheers to all us thieves!

I’ve been friends with Elaine for over 12 years I believe, we’re schoolmate and later on she went to UK to study. When I had my Uni in UK, she back to Hong Kong. She is very, very smart, the most adventurous person

I’ve ever seen.

One step forward or backward?

I feel that time flies so BLOODY fast, I’ve been struggling for publishing blog post, not because I don’t want to  (I always have ideas overflowing and wanted to share it to y’all) but there are days where my mind is totally filled with work, relationships, miscellaneous tiny things  and now I’m feeling so unmotivated.

Anyway, these pictures sum up my recent adventures 🙂

Met my sis and friend in London last weekend and we had Japanese at Eat Tokyo for lunch nearby China Town.  I actually really liked the sides, for the whole set is just £8.50.

I’m still trying to find a fine balance between work and play. I think lots of our successes in life will simply boil down to persistence and dedication… also a good time management.

On This Christmas

December is definitely the most magical month of the year and this is my second Christmas away from home.

Christmas is not only for presents and festive decorations, but also about spreading the Christmas spirit. Decorating your home is one way to spread the cheer and make sure that everyone is ready for the holiday cheer.

How to prepare your home for Christmas?

First of all, it’s no doubt that you’ve to clean your house before putting all decorations. Secondly, LIGHTS! I believe EVERYBODY LOVES the Christmas lights, or scented candle. . Not only does it look festive, but it will smell great and add Christmas spirit. Thirdly, put on some Christmas music, set the mood.

It is not hard to set up for the Christmas, it is all about tradition and doing it as a team with your family; it should be something that you and your family can enjoy greatly. When guests see your decorations they should get a feeling of warmth and joy.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year  to all of you and let’s have a fruitful 2017!

Graduation..Now what?

Though my graduation celebration had been finished for half a month, I still want to share with y’all – one of my best moments happened to my life (or at least in 2016). The moment that sunk in that I am finally done with school, I’ve been in college for 3 years 11 months. It feels great yet excited because school’s done and I have to start doing as the adults do, you clearly know that the real world is knocking at your door. Are there any fresh grad out there who share the same feeling as me?

Thank God for all those blessings He has given to me and because of my parents, teaching me how to be a thankful person. Without the help of them and the love from all awesome people I have in my life, I wouldn’t be here achieved all the things I have now.

We are all capable of doing great things in life.

Hoping my degree will always be a channel of blessing for everyone 🙂 I need to keep improving myself and never stop learning.

Don’t call this the city of romance for nothing

Overall, the trip was a blast. Although my friends warned me that it would disappoint before the trip – too crowded, too dirty, and too touristy most said, every spot you go, you walk deeper into some real-life watercolor painting that can always capture a nice picture. It’s like no place else I’ve ever been.

There are lots of canals and sidewalks, fanciful bridges, and of course, colourful-vivid buildings.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Growing up I celebrated all Chinese New Year in Hong Kong, but this is my first Chinese New Year in UK without family. I was very fortunate to celebrate it with my friends here. We first put up some spring couplets as decorations then spent 4.5 hours to prepare a reunion dinner. Food is a big part of the celebration, a common element of Chinese New Year’s feasts is fish since the Chinese word for fish shares the same pronunciation with the word for abundance, thus eating fish is believed to bring a surplus of money or good luck in the coming year.

Menu
Turnip Cake
Steamed Prawns with Chopped Garlic
Tom yum Soup
Steamed turnip with Dried Scallop
Braised Shiitake Mushrooms in Oyster Sauce
Steamed trout
Poached chicken with ginger and spring onion
Black sesame sweet rice dumplings

Chinese New Year FAQ

Q1.What is the Chinese New Year & why is it such a big deal?

“Chinese New Year” aka “Spring Festival”, is the most important festival for Chinese. The date is based on the lunar calendar thus varies every year but normally falls between mid-Jan to end of Feb. The Chinese New Year is extremely important to the Chinese as this is the time that people get to spend time with their families.

Q2. Why 2016 is Called the Year of Monkey?

Each Chinese New Year is characterised by one of 12 animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac. This year is the Year of the Monkey, the ninth animal of the cycle. The next Year of the Monkey will be in 2028.

Q3. Things Must/Mustn’t Do to avoid a year of bad luck?

  • Don’t talk about death or anything negative
  • Wear red underwear (This is an interesting one, isn’t it?)
  • Do not buy any shoes as it is considered very unlucky
  • It is said that if you sweep up rubbish or throw away rubbish on Chinese New Year Day, you will be sweeping or throwing away the wealth and luck.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them below and I’ll get back to you 🙂

I hope you all have enjoyed reading this and wish you all a very happy and lucky new year!

Old New Year

Maybe it’s time to let go of the pressure of a new year. January 1 doesn’t have to mean a juice cleanse or spending whole day on your coursework. There is nothing bad among them, but they all carry with them an underlying message to not fail.
Take a moment. Curl up and have a cup of hot chocolate or some treats. Look back what you’ve done in 2015?

You’ve grown.

You’ve accomplished.

You’ve come through.

You’ve survived.

You’ve conquered.

So Happy Old Year!

And..Happy New Year, too.
